Alcaucín

Sin duda, Alcaucín es uno de los pueblos del interior de la Axarquía más conocidos. Ello se debe a que en su término municipal se encuentra el Parque Natural de Sierra del Alcázar, acondicionado para la acampada con todo lo necesario para una cierta confortabilidad y visitado a lo largo del año pòr un gran número de personas. El pueblo se encuentra a unos 4,5 kilómetros de tan bello paraje, en la falda de Sierra Tejeda. A él se llega desde Vélez-Málaga siguiendo la dirección de Granada y desviándonos a unos 16 kilómetros en otro punto del camino muy conocido por ser lugar de parada casi obligada, el Puente Don Manuel, pequeño barrio distante de Alcaucín que cuenta con excelentes bares, restaurante y algún que otro hotel. Alcaucin fue fundada por los árabes que le dieron el nombre de Al Cautin (Los arcos), posiblemente porque entonces se fabricaban allí gran cantidad de arcos para disparar flechas. No obstante, se han encontrado restos pertenecientes a la época Neanderthal. Asimismo se cree que los restos de la antigua fortaleza de Zalia, remodelada por los árabes, pudo ser construida originalmente por los fenicios. El paisaje montañoso dominado por el imponente pico de La Maroma (2.080 metros), que comparte con Canillas de Aceituno, cuenta con los cerros de Morrón de la Cuña (1.222 m.), Mesa de Zalia (958 m.) y la Loma de las Monjas (850 m.). El agua discurre en abundancia en forma de arroyos que van a confluir en el río Alcaucín. Aguas con propiedades incluso curativas como las del manantial de las Majadas o las fuentes de Puente Don Manuel, las Cañas o el Espino. Un pueblo que recomiendo para reponer fuerzas y probar el "chivo" de la comarca es el restaurante El Ciervo.

No doubt Alcaucín is one of the villages inside the Axarquia best known. This is because in the municipality is located the Natural Park of Sierra del Alcázar, conditioning for camping with everything you need for some comfort and visited throughout the year by a large number of people.
