Best beach between Benidorm and Calpe
If you're staying in the stretch of coastline between Benidorm and Calpe, you'll be able to experience many of the things which have made Spain's Costa Blanca such a popular holiday destination: crystal-blue waters, great snorkeling, charming coastal villages, fresh seafood. What you wont find, though, are the long sandy beaches which have made the region's larger cities so popular. Instead, the coast between Benidorm and Calpe is home to pebble beaches of varying quality and rocky coves. While this fact has meant that he area has been spared from the mass-tourism of much of Costa Blanca, it also means that your options are pretty limited as far as beaches go.
That being said, there is hope: Playa del Albir is the small town of Alfaz del Pi, about 15 minutes by tram from Benidorm or a short walk from the charming village of Altea. The beach is, of course, a pebble beach but the pebbles are small and fine and won't hurt your feet if you want to go for a stroll. The beach is also quite long so there's plenty of space to lay out your towels, especially in the off season.
I'd suggest heading to the very southern point near the cliffs which lead to the Sierra Helada National Park (which, by the way, makes for an excellent and short hike in the afternoon). The pebbles at the southern point of the beach are especially fine and it ends up basically feeling like sand. The mountain cliffs also create a sort of natural bay at the south end that's perfect for snorkeling.
Again, it's not the nicest beach you'll find in Costa Blanca but it's definitely the best one between Calpe and Benidorm and the crystal-clear water and spectacular views of the mountains and coast more than make up for what it lacks in sand!
