Akureyri Botanical Garden
Akureyri is the regional capital of northern Iceland and is located at the bottom of the fjord Eyjafjördur. It's so only 100 km south of the Arctic Circle. It is surrounded by mountains, most of them Súlur 1,213 meters above sea level, and Hlíðarfjall at 1,116 meters above sea level. It is a small and industrial city. The city hosted the allied air forces during the Second World War. Akureyri has a botanical garden and is located at a miraculous latitude because it is almost petting the Arctic Circle. It is 3.6 hectares. Native species of Iceland as well as other parts of the world live here. The incredible array of species is due to its microclimate which allows for unusual growth of trees and plants.
