Get Water from Jerte Valley
If Plasencia stands out because of anything (in addition to its well-preserved city wall), it's because of its aqueduct, which is at the entrance of the city, right on Ruta de la Plata (N-630). With granite masonry, the aqueduct was built by Juan de Flandes in the 16th century, replacing an earlier one from the 12th century. This aqueduct collected water from the Jerte Valley and led it to the Fortress of Don Luis de Ávila and Zúñiga, where there was a water tank that distributed water throughout the fountains in the village. Today we can only see 55 arches that are about 300 meters long in this great work of hydraulic engineering.
