Costa da Morte Route

It is hard to delimit “A Costa da Morte”, but my trip began in Malpica, passing through Carballo (A Coruña) where we made the first stop for coffee and to stretch our legs, since we had already driven for two hours.

When we arrived at Malpica we parked in the port. Further along on the other side of the port I was surprised with its beach, Area Maior, with beautiful views of the Sisargas islands, shelter for sea birds. The weather was nice so we went up to contemplate de chapel of San Adrián and therefore got a bit closer to the beautiful islands.

Since it was almost time to eat we stopped in the best restaurant in Corme, a small but beautiful town with its beaches and lighthouse (Faro do Roncudo). We were told by friends that in that town one can eat the best goose barnacles in Galicia.

A Place to Disconnect

I like this place because it allows you to disconnect from everything and to admire its empty beaches, to remember the stories of fishermen and old ships trapped in its rocks and cliffs. The best part is the gastronomy and the people. There is nothing better than drinking a glass of Riberio while listening to the stories of old sailors. The seafood is amazing.

Rough, Dangerous, Wild, Untamed

It is a area that is known for the great quantity of shipwrecks throughout history. Rough, dangerous, wild, untamable. It is the perfect place to disconnect and admire the nature just as it was hundreds, maybe thousands, of years ago. I hope it stays like this for a long time.

The Wonderful End of the World

Excellent

Beaches with white sand, amazing gastronomy, megaliths, amazing lighthouses…without a doubt it is a place to get lost in. My family has its roots there and it is easy to understand what the “morriña galega” (feeling of identity) is when you are in Costa da Morte. You can do a thousand hiking routes and to visit the sea towns from the past. It is a great trip.
