Church and castle
The Parish Church of St. Helena, is one of the most important buildings in the town of Ashby-de-la-Zouch.
The original building was built in the early 14th century. Its proximity to the castle and the historic market place clearly indicate the town's most historic and original area. Both buildings were pillars of urban centers in medieval times.
One of the most ancient parts is the tower whose structure seems to indicate that it was once independent. In its interior, the Hastings family chapel is one of the most powerful in the history of this town.
The church underwent a remodeling process during the 19th century The column located on the outside, which is now topped by a cross, was once used as a punishment and torture.
